Prefinished Hardwood Flooring is called this way because the Wood
floors have been factory finished before they are installed. Prefinished
hardwood floors are produced in acrylic impregnated, engineered and
solids. They are becoming the main stream of the "new" hardwood floor
products.
|
 |
The main reason for making this type of hardwood floor product so
popular with some homeowners, and builders is the tough factory finish.
The
other reason is the ease of installation and the elimination of dusty
sanding procedures.
Prefinished Hardwood Flooring is Often used in commercial
installations, like common public areas, shopping malls, and restaurants.
They also
work well in high traffic areas of the household, such as kitchens and
adjoining family rooms.
|
| These are some of the commonly used wood floor finishes used for
prefinished hardwood flooring: |
1. Acrylic Impregnated – Acrylic monomers are injected into the cell
structure of the wood to give increased hardness and then finished with
a wear layer over the wood.
2. Acrylic-urethane – Has a slightly different chemical make up than
polyurethane, but with similar benefits.
3. Aluminum Oxide – particles added to the polyurethane finish to
increase the abrasion resistance of the wear layer.
4. Polyurethane – A clear, tough and durable finish that is applied
as a wear layer.
5. UV-cured – these floors are finished at the factory and the
polyurethane finish are cured with Ultra Violet lights instead of using heat.
